Conservation And The Environment - Our Thinking

Being in the garden business, we are aware of environmental issues and we try to do our bit. Insects, birds and other creatures rely on gardens for their very existence and many provide an alternative habitat to pesticide polluted and hedgerow denuded farmland. Many materials and timber treatments are now considered to have an adverse effect on the soil and consequently the creatures that live in it.

So we:

Use timber from sustainable sources (deforestation)
Do not use peat based composts (depletion of peat bogs)
Suggest to clients (where possible) to resuse existing materials (less landfill)
Encourage clients to have a compost heap/bin (Less waste and cheap soil improvement)
We start work early (8.00/8.30) to reduce time spent in traffic and minimise hydrocarbons
Use email as much as possible (just a little less paper)
Try, with the clients agreement, to make gardens wild life friendly (sparrow depletion for one)
Where possible use water conserving garden techniques

We try to consider environmental issues in the design, planning and construction of gardens and whilst not applicable in every case, it is possible to encourage a range of wildlife including butterflies by careful selection of plants and in the design process.
